For the 29-year-old Mr. Kelvin De Chavez, a job seeker from Mataasnakahoy, Batangas, being deaf is not an obstacle to reaching his dream of landing a new work that will enable him to earn and support his family. According to Mr. De Chavez, he never considered his physical challenges for him to stop striving for his career goals.

More than 500 aspirants, including Mr. De Chavez, participated in the Araw ng Kalayaan Job Fair held at the SM City Lipa, Batangas, on June 12.
With eagerness, he applied to different companies that offer positions involving tasks on encoding and using office software.
Among the first applicants who landed their jobs on the spot was Ms. Catherine Ann Robles from Lipa City, who recently graduated from Senior High School with a strand in Humanities and Social Science. As a first-time attendee of a job fair, Ms. Robles shared that she did not expect to land a new job as a production operator of a manufacturing company.

Ms. Robles is one of the 102 workers who were hired on the spot (HOTS) during the Araw ng Kalayaan Job Fair with changed lives as they embarked on yet another milestone in their careers.
Aside from more than 12,000 vacancies from over 40 companies, the event initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment IV-A - Batangas Provincial Office, in partnership with the Public Employment Service Office of Lipa City and SM City Lipa, also offered a one-stop-shop with partners from the Social Security System, Philippine Statistics Authority, and the Pag-IBIG Fund.
