For ten years, Ms. Rosaline Maligaya from San Pedro, Sto. Tomas City Batangas, has been working as a domestic worker.
“Maliit pa ‘yung mga anak ko ito na talaga ang trabaho ko. Mahirap pero if kaya mo naman ‘yung trabaho, nagagampanan mo naman, okay naman. Hindi ka naman pwedeng mamili ng trabaho sa ngayon dahil para ‘yun sa mga anak ko,” Ms. Maligaya narrated.
Through her domestic work, Ms. Maligaya was able to send her four children to school and finance their day-to-day needs. Despite the challenges of life, she shared that she will always be grateful for job as a domestic worker.
“Sa pagiging kasambahay ko, napatapos ko ang mga anak ko sa trabaho kong ‘to. Proud na proud po ako sa trabaho ko pong ito. Hindi po ako nahihiya dahil sa trabaho kong ito, nakatulong ito sa pamilya ko lalo na sa anak kong nag-aaral,” she remarked.
Ms. Maligaya is one of the more than 40 domestic workers from Lipa City, Tanauan City and Sto. Tomas City, Batangas who received their well-deserved pampering day during the celebration of the Kasambahay Day at the Department of Labor and Employment IV-A - Batangas Provincial Office, Lipa City, Batangas, January 18.
DOLE IV-A Regional Director Atty. Roy L. Buenafe graced the event and shared the significant role of every kasambahay in the day-to-day life of Filipino families. He also honored all the participants who are rendering their services with heart and commitment as a part of every Filipino home.
During the learning session, resource speakers shared the salient features of the Batas Kasambahay, government-mandated benefits such as the Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, and PhilHealth, as well as occupational safety and health for domestic workers.
After these substantial talks, the domestic workers experienced pampering sessions such as massage, manicure and pedicure, dental services, and baking demo.
“Nakapahinga kami. Nagkaroon kami ng tipong-tipong ganito. Nagkakilakilala dito at tsaka may mga libre silang binibigay dito gaya nitong nagpagupit kami. Libre na,” Ms. Maligaya shared.
Aside from the services from the Technical and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) and their partners, the Philippine Dental Association Inc. Batangas City and Lipa City rendered free tooth extraction to select beneficiaries during the pampering day.
With these kinds of activities, the department hopes to continue raising awareness on the rights of workers and promote decent employment in all sectors.
